Financial Protection

A good friend of mine told me a story about a young lady who had two little boys and had recently been divorced. The woman was now the sold provider for her family and asked my friend to help provide some life insurance. Even though the woman's budget was extremely tight, she found enough money to purchase the life insurance she needed.

A few years went by and the woman called my friend and said, in a very concerned voice, that she was ill with cancer. She wanted to make sure that her two boys would abe taken care of if anything were to happen to her. My friend assured her that the insurance policy, if it was needed, would be sufficient to take financial care of her young boys.

Sadly, after a long fight with cancer, the young lady passed away, and although there was no way to replace their mother, the two boys had the financial resources to continue in life.

The Seventh Golden Key of financial protection is based on the biblical concept of providing for one's family. If a family has saved enough money in its emergency fund, there is the financial ability to handle small losses.

Buying insurance plans for your television, cell phone, or other small items is probably not needed. However, there are many things that can go wrong in this imperfect world that without insurance can destroy a family. The most common types of financial protection include health insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and long-term health care insurance.

Some people question whether one should purchase any insurance because it shows a lack of trust in God. Certainly the purchase of excess insurance for the purpose of greed is not God's will.

So it is important to prayerfully consider the need for and amount of any insurance to ensure the proper financial protection for your family. "But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever" (1 Timothy 5:8).

Now you must place this key in your hand and search out the treasure it holds: peace of mind.
